Invasive plants are invading property and destroying ecosystems. This presentation talks about characteristics of the most egregious invasive plants and how to identify and control species that are impacting our environment in a big way. This class will offer alternatives to invasives still being sold and suggest measures landowners can take to protect property and prevent spread. The presentation also discusses recent legislation to eliminate the sale of commonly sold invasives and what local municipalities are doing to control invasives on public lands and in educating residents. The instructors are hoping to learn more from participants on what actions are being taken in their own communities, and will make suggestions how attendees can help battle these invasive thugs.

The American chestnut was once a dominant tree in the Appalachian forests, but a blight fungus that hitched a ride on imported Asian chestnut trees decimated the population long ago. Learn about the history of the American chestnut and current efforts to restore the tree back to the eastern forests. After a one hour presentation, we will travel to a nearby orchard to view trees being used in the restoration effort.
