S24/19
Wildflower enthusiast, Master Gardener Nancy Bailey, and Nancy Taylor, Flanders’ Botany Committee Member, will present on the wonderful ephemeral secrets found along the Flanders’ Botany Trail in Woodbury, CT. The session will begin with a discussion about the variety of wildflowers found in area, the importance of wildflowers for our ecosystem and how the controlling of invasive plants will allow wildflowers to flourish. The discussion will be followed by a guided tour of the Flanders’ Botany Trail (0.6 miles). This award-winning trail was developed in 1965 by members of the Pomperaug Valley Garden Club of Woodbury, who continue to maintain and improve its beauty. More than 100 species of wildflowers and plants are represented on the trail, as it winds through woodlands, wetlands and close to streams and a pond. You will also learn to use a newly published pictorial wildflowers guide designed specifically for the Flanders’ Botany Trail
